The first Medicine 2.0 conference took place last week in Toronto. It is described as "a new, annual international conference on Web 2.0 applications in health and medicine, organized and co-sponsored by the Journal of Medical Internet Research, the International Medical Informatics Association, the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation, and a number of other sponsoring organizations."
The meeting was sold out and proved to be a successful beginning to a new, annual, important addition to the future of medicine. The website defines Medicine 2.0 as "Medicine 2.0 applications, services and tools are Web-based services for health care consumers, caregivers, patients, health professionals, and biomedical researchers, that use Web 2.0 technologies as well as semantic web and virtual reality tools, to enable and facilitate specifically social networking, participation, apomediation, collaboration, and openness within and between these user groups."
